Pecan Divinity

My husband is a HUGE fan of pecan divinity. When he was a kid he went on a trip to Gatlinburg, TN and visited a little candy store called Ole Smokey Candy Kitchen and had his first taste of Pecan Divinity, he was hooked. Over the years he found it locally but never as good as the cute little store in the Smokey Mountains. Luckily some of his relatives still live in that area and when we go to visit we make a little stop and pick some up.

So...I decided to try and make it for him. He said that it tastes JUST like it. An early Valentines present for the love of my life, my soul mate and best friend.

Ingredients:

2 2/3 cups sugar

2/3 cup light corn syrup

1/2 c water

2 large egg whites

1 tsp vanilla

3 drops food color, if desired

2/3 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Directions:

Cook sugar, corn syrup and water in 2-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved. Cook about 20 minutes, WITHOUT STIRRING, to 260 degrees on a candy thermometer. (If you do not have a candy thermometer you can test it by dropping a small amount of mixture into a cup of very cold water, if it forms a hard ball that holds it shape but is pliable it is done).

Beat egg whites in a small bowl with stand mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form, about 7-9 minutes. Gently transfer egg whites to large bowl. Continue beating constantly on medium speed while pouring hot syrup in a thin stream into egg whites.

Add vanilla and food color. Beat until mixture holds its shape and becomes slightly dull, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in the pecans.

Quickly drop heaping teaspoonfuls of mixture onto waxed paper. You will want the lightly butter the spoon (or if you are like me the melon baller) so that the mixture doesn't stick.

Let stand uncovered for about 3 hours or until the candies feel firm and are dry to the touch. Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

You can also freeze them for up to 6 months.

I cut some out into cute little hearts with a small heart cookie cutter after they had sit for about 20 minutes. I think they would also be adorable as a "Divinity Pop" by putting a stick into the bottom of the shape that you cut out. I tinted mine pink but the possibilities are endless, I just might need to try green shamrock divinity pops for St. Patricks Day!

Vanity makeover

When I found this old vanity at a garage sale only 3 houses away I was very excited. The table with attached mirror (not shown or even attempted YET) was only $10. The ideas of what to do with this table were racing in my head. I loved all the little details of this table.

It needed a little love and attention but I was up for the challenge. I started off by sanding it and found a few spots that I needed to glue down a little:

Once that step was done I began priming it in basic white primer:

Then I decided on a color for the twins room, and did the top coat in a glossy Aqua spray paint and changed out the knobs.

Mirror makeover for under $50

I am LOVING making our new house our HOME. When we moved we decided to give our twin girls, now 2 1/2 years old, a big girl room. No more crib, no more toddler beds, TWIN BEDS! They have done great in their new beds and I have loved decorating their room and making it as girly as possible.
I decided to show you all one section of the room at a time and then I will show off how adorable it is all together.

When we purchased this dresser at Art Van,

they were out of stock of the matching mirror and now...I am so glad that they were.

I found this mirror at Ikea:

It is called the Ung Drill mirror and I picked it up on sale for $29.99

I also picked up two of these frames from Ikea:

They are called the Kvill frames and were on sale for $1.99 each, bringing my total to $33.97

The mirror frame and both picture frames were made of plastic so now I just needed to find the right paint.

I found exactly what I needed at Lowes. They sell Valspar brand spray paint. I picked up one can of the Valspar Plastic Primer and one can of Valspar Gloss in the color Frosty Berry. I paid $2.94 for each can bringing my new total to $39.85

I sprayed this first coat of plastic primer on all three frames, waited the recommeneded 10 minutes and sprayed the second coat. I set my timer for 1 hour and then applied my first coat of the Frosty Berry color. I waited 1 hour and checked them, the small picutre frames were perfect, no touch up needed. I did need to apply 3 more coats to the larger frame to cover up the black and to make sure I got into every crack but I still only needed one can of the Frosty Berry spray paint.

Once dry I decided that I wanted to put a silhouette of each of my girls into the frames so I took a quick profile picture of each of them:

I then just printed the pictures on my printer on to card stock, slowly cut out the silhouette, placed the cut out down onto another piece of cardstock and using spray paint that I all ready had handy (chalkboard paint of course) I sprayed the cut out black. I then just taped the black silhouette to a another piece of cardstock that I had cut to 5 x 7 to fit the frame. To be fair since most of you do not have a can of black paint laying around the price online for the Krylon Chalkboard paint that I used is $7.42 bringing my total for this entire project to:

$47.27

I am so sorry that I have been MIA. Our movers are coming in three days and we have been at the new house everyday for the last 2 weeks getting it ready. We purchased a new lake home that is in the perfect location and is double our current homes size but we wanted to paint and make it "Our Own" before moving in. Rockin Slumber Party

I receive many emails in my inbox and several of them are coupons. When I received an email from Zulily and noticed that they had Ed Hardy at a 50% discount I had to check it out. Once there I instantly had 3 pair of cute PJ's in my cart and then I noticed the T-Shirts, suddenly I had PJ's ordered for not only my girls but also for my nieces and nephews and the idea of a Rockin Slumber Party started in my head.

I contacted my sweet friend Jennifer from Passion-For-Parties knowing that she was just getting started on her new printable party line and mentioned it to her. She was VERY excited to jump on board and create adorable printables for the party. (FYI her shop is not technically open YET but you can still contact her if interested in this line)

Then...my dear friend Aimee Broussard started to make and sell her Party to Geaux boxes and I realized how perfect it would be, she was happy to create a custom box for me in my party colors.

I ordered a plain white cake from our local grocery store and was not happy with the appearance. I tried to smooth out its imperfections but it was not easy. I added the colored sixlets to the bottom, made a large chocolate guitar by tracing the printable guitar under waxed paper and YES, the two other guitars on the cake are Terri's Party Treasures cake balls.

I loved making the little push pop containers into little microphones. I just added a black styrofoam ball, some black vinyl and of course black licorice for the cord. Inside were little Dandy Delights cookies frosted in the party colors!

Each child had their own cake ball on a cute glittered star stir stick. I also made them each a guitar glass using my cricut and a little black vinyl, inexpensive way to dress up dollar store glasses

RULES, of course there were rules at our party but not like any rules that are normally in my house!

We ALL had a blast! We played soccer, dodge ball, musical chairs, freeze dance, sang karaoke and colored rock star pictures. The boys played video games while the girls got rock star makeovers.

Everyone loved their green hair and Ed Hardy pajamas and tshirts.

and of course one of me, I even have a little Rock Star in me!

I need a time out!

I think that I am in need of a time out!!

My story...
If you are reading this then you either follow my blog or came to this post from facebook, but...how much do you really know me???
You know that my name is Terri and I love to have parties, make crafts and cake balls and that I have three BEAUTIFUL little girls. What you might not know is that Katie (now 4) wasn't even two years old when her twin sisters Kelsey and Kylie were born. The twins were born prematurely at 30 weeks. Kelsey's lung collapsed on the second day and she needed to be put on a ventilator and recieve a chest tube, Kylie had a small hole in her heart when she was born. When I look back at that time now I always think about how small they were and how I had to wait 6 days before I was able to hold them.

The first time that I held them!

The first time that Katie held them, they were about 10 weeks old.

Luckily the amazing staff in the NICU took wondeful care of them and after 4 weeks Kylie was able to come home. She was so small and could not sit in a carseat so we rented the "capsule" from the hospital to take her home.

She came home on a machine because she occasionally stopped breathing and we had to start her breathing again. This made it very difficult to visit Kelsey for the next two weeks while she was still in the hospital.

They were so small, I often compared their little heads to the size of a small orange. The next 6 months were a blur, lack of sleep, doctor visits, developmental clinics, etc..
I remember when my oldest Katie was born I wanted to be home with her but it made more sense to continue working, when the twins were born I made it my goal to become a stay at home mom. I started planning parties and making cake balls in September 2010 so that I would be able to make a little extra money once I took the leap and I also THOUGHT that I needed to do something to keep myself sane.
I left my corporate job on March 1, 2011 and for the past 6 months I have been raising my children and running a business. I am amazed at how much my business has grown and how popular my cake balls have become.
I became what I can only call The Time Out Mom. My girls were needing me more this summer and I was busy! When they did something wrong I wasn't taking the time to teach them what they did was wrong instead I was sending them to "Time Out". Well, I think this mommy needs a TIME OUT! It is hard to admit when I am wrong but I am admitting it now. I did not realize how difficult it would be to raise these three little ladies and I am now realizing that I took on too much. I became a SAHM so that I could raise my girls, so that I could teach them and now I have made the decision that is what I would like to do.
We are going to be closing on a new house in the next couple weeks and moving into it sometime in November.

I am going to be putting my business (Terri's Party Treasures) on hold. If I have you on my calendar for an order or if you have won a giveaway I will fill all of those orders, however, I will not be taking any new orders.
My children are growing up very fast. I went with my 4 year old yesterday to her first day of school (which I admit I am having a hard time with). The twins did graduate from the developmental clinic however there are some things that developmentally need attention not to mention I will begin potty training them in the next month and I don't even know where to start on potty training twins!!
I can't tell you how long I will be in time out, but I can only say that over the next few months I will be spending more quality time with my family and on my new home. I sincerely apologize and I want you to all know that this is very hard for me but my family comes first. I want to be able to spend more time with them and enjoy them.
I am also looking forward to taking this 1950's home that we are purchasing and making it ours. You might see some renovation projects on the blog, a few trash to treasure projects, etc. I will continue making cake balls for my girls and will post pictures from time to time. We have our own little parties, tea parties, slumber parties, etc. coming up so stay tuned, I WILL still be around!!

Thank you so much for believing in me, and for being patient as I attempt to navigate all the twists and turns life brings. Thank you also for allowing me to be honest with you, and to share my struggle.

Baptism/1st Birthday/St. Patty's Day Party all in one!!

When my little nephew was born last year on St. Patrick's Day we said that we would have a Green and White first birthday party but when my sister called and told me that she was also going to have him baptised that day I wasn't sure how I was going to tie it all together.

Luckily, I have met some amazing party girls and I knew that Laura from Eye Candy Event Details would be able to create the perfect printable line to combine the three.

After a few more emails to my friend Sara at Dandy Delights for cookies and Kristy at The Purple Pug for a custom glittered banner for the cake I was all set!

In the collage above you will see my first transfer image oreos, I love how they turned out!

For the cake balls I found an adorable tutorial online to make the lepracaun hat, which I cannot find now (if you find the link please let me know so I can give them credit), I put some on the main dessert table in those hats that my 3 year old and I made and the rest went on another table with the extra cookies.

Mocha Toffee Trifle

I have been meaning to post this recipe for a long time now. I make this recipe all the time. The kids like to eat the brownies plain but I haven't met an adult that doesn't love the combination of chocalate, coffee and toffee!

You can layer this in a large trifle bowl or in several small ones like I did here for individual servings.

Chocolate Mocha Trifle

1 Brownie Mix (made according to cake-like directions) or you can purchase the store bought round, pre-made brownies to save time

1 3/4 cup white milk

2 - 3.3 ounce packages of instant white chocolate pudding and pie filling

1 - 12 ounce container Cool Whip (8 oz container will be enough, but if you want to decorate the top of the trifle you will want the additioanl cool whip)

3 Heath candy bars (or the package of Heath toffee bits)

2 tsp instant coffee

Bake brownie and let cool.

Cut or break into small squares.

Add coffee to warm water, stir to dissolve coffee and let stand.

Whisk together milk and pudding, add coffee and fold together.

Begin folding in Cool Whip. Mixture should be a light mocha color and somewhat thick.

Chop Heath bars.

Layer trifle-brownie, mocha, Heath until indgredients are gone.

If you used the 12 oz of Cool Whip you can add it to the top with a tiny bit of Heath to decorate.

*This recipe if from the Pampered Chef, I am not sure if it is in any of their books, I had it at a party a few years ago and have been making it ever since.

Before and After chair makeover

Last summer I picked up these 2 chairs at a garage sale for a total of $5.00. When I brought them home my husband thought that I was crazy. They were old, dirty, smelly and

if you look close you will notice one of them has a broken arm. I had always wanted to try to makeover something and for $5.00 it was worth a try.

After removing the seat, changing the padding and attaching new fabric I removed the arms. I Filled the holes with wood putty, sanded, primed and painted...

I LOVE THEM!!!

Dr. Seuss Baby Shower

I was Very excited when I was contacted to style a

Dr. Seuss baby shower. I was hired to take care of the dessert table (not the cake or cupcakes), cat in the hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2 cake ball favors, centerpieces and poms. I had a blast with this one, enjoy!

The backdrop is actually a shower curtain, I happened to be browsing Pottery Barn online and found THIS shower curtain on sale and I had to get it! I just taped it to a large piece of wood and it was perfect! I actually had people asking me if I painted the backdrop before they realized it was fabric.

The cake was made by a friend of the family, her business is called Cakes by Terri, not me but I LOVE the name!!

The cupcakes were picked up at a local bakery.

After seeing This party on Pizzazerie by my dear friend Bird at Birds Party and this amazing rainbow tablecloth

I had an idea. I contacted my sweet sister in law because she is AMAZING on a sewing machine and emailed her this picture. I asked her to create me a tablecloth with velcro layers and that is exactly what she did!!!

Every red and white layer is attached with velcro and and can be changed. You will see this bad boy in another post soon with different colored layers!! Thank you Jenny!!!

Easter spread

I was so happy when Anders Ruff asked me to collaborate on their Easter shoot with them and even more excited when I got the adorable collection. I couldn't wait to use the adorable line for my Easter table.

My three year old and I covered some juice boxes with scrapbook paper (that she picked out) and then I used one of the mini candy bar wrappers on top to coordinate and a straw flag.

The cookies were by my amazing friend Sara from Dandy Delights

I made the chocolate nests to hold the cake balls using THIS recipe from WikiHow

I didn't use the sesame seeds and it tasted GREAT!

Huge Cake Ball Announcement

I know that not everyone on my blog follows me for cakeballs but some of you do and I wanted to make an announcement for all to see.

Beginning May 1st Terri's Party Treasures will not be shipping cake balls. I will resume shipping cake ball orders when the weather cools back down sometime in the Fall. I started to look into dry ice and overnight shipping but the added expense and time that it would take was just too much in my opinion. I do not want to risk the cake balls melting in shipping and everyone not getting the best product possible.

Instead, I will be spending the summer not only focusing more on my local customers and growing that market but also focusing on my three little girls.

Candy Shoppe party

Back in January I helped to style a Candy Shoppe birthday party for a friend of mine who's little girl was turning 4 and little boy was turning 3. The party was at Zoobilee and we were only given 30 minutes to set up. We did the best we could in the little time.

Terri's Treasures on facebook recently hit 1000 facebook fans. I did not have time to put togther a huge giveaway so I had secretly decided that the 1000th fan would get some free things!

Wilton Pop Blogger Contest

I have decided to throw my hat in the ring for a little contest that Wilton is hosting, The Pop Blogger Contest! It is a contest to show off your mad pop skills. I know that I have only been doing this for under 6 months but, I figured, why not!

A few years ago I actually took the wilton cake decorating classes 1 and 2 with my cousin Sara. I made a few cakes in the past 2 years and my cousin started making them for several other people and became self taught in many other skills in cake decorating.

While planning my twin daughters first birthday last May I found a recipe and picture for cake pops and decided to give them a try. They were a huge hit and now I have a facebook fan page with close to 600 fans, a website in the works, have sent orders all over the country including one for a Nickelodean photo shoot and in one week I will be attending an event hosted by Martha Stewart called Dreamers into Doers where fabulous women from all over the world get together and learn how to successfully manage a business (or in my case a side business).

The pictures below are some of my favorites. Trust me, it did not start off this way. My first few were not as round or smooth. A few hints/tricks would be to make sure your chocolate is completely melted. Use a tall glass so that you can comepletly submerge the pop. Before you dip the cakeball, insert the tip of a wilton sucker stick into the chocolate and place in the ball. Let that dry and then submerge. Slightly tap to remove excess and twirl at the same time.
I use wilton tips 2 and 3 to do alot of the detail on the pops. You can also use wilton pearl dust to give them a little extra shine and sparkle.

This was my creation. I cut down striped straws and placed them on top of the lolli sticks. I used a candy mold to make the letters.

* Note, the straws are not strong enough alone, you need to put them over the lolli stick

** The letter candy molds are very small, use the wilton candy writer to fill it in

Most of these were inspired by Bakerella, however, I did change up the Mummy to make him my own

Open House introducting new Christmas Line

Sunday December 5th Terri's Party Treasures had its very first open house. I made samples of 11 cake ball flavors, a full desert table introducing our new Christmas Printable Line, we had 6 different fudge flavors, adorable sucker teacher gifts and more. It was a success and I want to thank everyone that came out to show their support.

Wedding Monogram Cookies

I recently created a wedding monogram and bag topper design for a friend from work for her upcoming wedding. I uploaded the customizeable printable images to my etsy shop, you can see them HERE

Well, I was also hired to make her wedding favors. I printed out the images that I designed on my edible image printer and put them on sugar cookies.
Here is the final product:

MSU .vs. UOM Free Topper Printable

If you live in Michigan odds are you are going to watch the Michigan State Spartans battle the University of Michigan Wolverines. They are both undefeated and ranked 17th and 18th.

My husband is a Michigan State Alumni so we will be wearing Green and White in our house today but I have SEVERAL friends that are UOM fans. I will be watching the game at home today with my three girls so that daddy can enjoy the game with some friends.

Halloween Cake Balls and an Edible Fall Topiary with tutorial

I have been wanting to try the Fall Topiaries that are all over blogland and I finally found time to make my own. I have been putting it off because using candy and hot glue put me off, if I am using candy I want to be able to eat but with hot glue and on a foam ball, you can't exactly eat it. Well, I came up with a different way. Check out this tutorial:

I started with Rice Krispie treats and a long cookie lollipop stick.

I roll the Rice Krispie treats into a ball, added ribbon to the stick and inserted it.

Then I melted yellow candy melts and applied using a new foam brush

While I was doing this step I put my candy into the freezer to get them cold. This helped the candy to harden as soon as I put them on.

Now it was time to start adding the candy corn.

1 layer at a time

Towards the end the candy had hardened and it made it harder to adhere the candy corn. I had a bowl of melted candy and I dipped the end of the candy corn into the candy before I placed it on the ball and that worked great. I also used 4 different colors of candy corn, you could use the same color or even other candies, try gum drops or M & M's. Have fun with it!

I also made several new cake balls today for Halloween, some inspired by Bakerella herself!

This Cake By Sara not only looked PERFECT, it was so moist and delicious. People absolutley love it. It was so cute I ddint' want to cut into it and then, it was just as cute inside.

Martha: Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of an ice cream cone to prevent ice cream drips.

Maxine: Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!

Martha: To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

Maxine: Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix. Keeps in the pantry for up to a year.

Martha: When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

Maxine: Go to the bakery! Hell, they'll even decorate it for you!

Martha: If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant 'fix-me-up.'

Maxine: If you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too bad. Please recite with me the real woman's motto: 'I made it, you will eat it and I don 't care how bad it tastes!'

Martha: Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

Maxine: Celery? Never heard of it!

Martha: Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

Maxine: The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust, so I don 't.

Martha: Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Maxine: Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink! All your pains go away!

Martha: Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

Dandy Delights Review

I am posting this because I truely think that Dandy Delights cookies are wonderful. I met up with Sara from Dandy Delights today at lunch to pick up these amazing cookies, well, we will just say that there is now 1 missing. I coulnd't help myself, the lemon shortbread bee was talking to me, EAT ME!!

I am not sure how I will make it without sampling the chocolate shortbread bee hives.

I am sure most of you remember the adorable princess crown cookies that she made for the twins 1st birthday.

Baseball Cake Balls and Labor Day

I had an order for cake balls labor day weekend. They weren't as easy as I hoped but I got them done.

Fall Free Printables

There are so many posts about Halloween going around that I wanted to focus on Fall/Autumn. I LOVE fall. The amazing colors, the smell of the leaves :)

Ba-BEE Shower runner

Over the weekend I made a table runner for the upcoming Ba-BEE shower. I am not the best when it comes to sewing and am very happy with how it turned out. The best part, it is reverseable.

Our 5 Year Anniversary!

5 years ago today I married my best friend. We have accomplished so much in the past 3 years, most important would be these 3 beauties:

I am amazed at how much more I love him today, he is an amazing husband and father.

Here are a few pictures from our wedding 5 years ago:

This one was taken at the reception. Mike has an amazing voice, he probably could have chosen a better song, he sang me Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye. Marvin would be proud, it sounded great!

To show you that I was crafting even back then, here is a picture of our thank you card:

This was easy to make, I just printed large letters on copy paper, cut them out, traced them and filled it in. I made 2 because I wasn't sure which one I liked better.

I also made this memorial candle for my Grandpa and Uncle who were no longer with us.

It is hard to read, I am sorry. I printed the words on vellum paper on my printer. Cut it down to size, wrapped the top and bottom with ribbon and used pearl pins in the back to hold it in place.

She said they were very easy to make using a doll rod wrapped in 2 different green ribbons, styrofoam ball and fun fur yarn.

Diaper Wreath

Yes, you read that correctly, a diaper wreath. I have seen several tutorials on the famous diaper cake but not on a diaper wreath so I thought that I would share.

First you will need to purchase a Styrofoam wreath form, diapers (I used size 2) and some clear elastic hair bands(small).

You simply open up the diaper, place it around the form and using your elastic band secure it in place.

Repeat all the way around

Once you go all the way around you can start to unfold the top layer slightly to fill in the gaps

Once you have it spread out you can add your curling ribbon. I chose yellow and black for the upcoming Baby-Bee shower. Simply tie them around each diaper covering the elastic band.

Go all the way around, curl your ribbon and add toys, rattles, clothes, etc..

This small one only needed 9 diapers, yes, 9 diapers. That is way fewer then a diaper cake. I pinned a cute bee onesie in the center.

Here is another one that I made using a large form

This one needed 15 diapers. I wrapped a pair of "Cute as can Bee" pants around the top and pinned the matching shirt on the bottom hoping that it looked like a ribbon.

This was a very easy and inexpensive project. Please share pictures if you create one.

Strawberry Birthday Party

This past weekend I had a Strawberry Picnic party for my Mother-in-laws birthday. This is the cake that I made.

I also made frosted sugar cookies and edible image cookies.

Michigan Tart Cherry Pie

We came home from our vacation in Traverse City and the Cherry Festival with a bucket of tart cherries. I finally found this recipe on Midwestliving.com

Michigan Tart Cherry Pie

Prep: 30 min.

Bake: 1-1/4 hrs.

Stand: 45 min.

1-1/4 cups sugar

2 Tbsp. quick-cooking tapioca

2 Tbsp. cornstarch

5-1/2 cups fresh or frozen unsweetened pitted tart red cherries

1 Tbsp. lemon juice

Two Crust Pie Shell (Helen Fletcher's No Fail Pie Crust), see recipe center

Water

1 Tbsp. sugar

Directions

1. In a large bowl, stir together the 1-1/4 cups granulated sugar, quick-cooking tapioca, and cornstarch; add frozen cherries and lemon juice. Gently toss until coated. Let mixture stand about 45 minutes or until fruit is partially thawed but still icy; stirring occasionally. (If using fresh cherries, let cherry mixture stand about 15 minutes or until a syrup forms; stirring occasionally.)

2. Prepare and roll out Two Crust Pie Shell pastry. Line a 9-inch pie plate with half of the pastry.

3. Transfer cherry mixture to the pastry-lined pie plate. Cut slits in remaining pastry to make a pretty design; place on filing. Trim overhangs to an even 1 inch all the way around. Tuck the crusts under and flute the edges. Lightly brush top pastry with a little water. Sprinkle the 1 tablespoon sugar on top pastry. To prevent overbrowning, cover edge of pie with foil.

4. Place pie plate on middle shelf in oven; place foil-lined baking sheet on lower rack beneath pie. Bake in a 375 degree F oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil. Bake about 50 minutes more or until filling is bubbly and crust is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack at least 2 hours before serving. Makes 8 servings.

It was delicious!

I hadn't ever made a pie from scratch before and was VERY happy with how it turned out. It didn't bubble over, next time I wouldn't put the entire 5 1/2 cups of cherries, but it tasted Great.

I also do not own a cherry pitter, I used the straw method and it worked like a charm:

Remove the stem
Using a large straw (mine was from McDonalds) place it over the hole from the stem
Push and turn until the pit comes out of the bottom

It is time consuming to pit that many cherries but well worth it!

In return to thank her I created a quick printable for her upcoming daughter's PRE K pink party.
